I have sufficiently wasted the first several hours of my day off with sleep, a dog stroll and a hodge podgy breakfast that was incredibly satisfying. I walked over to the corner pupuseria and ordered: 1 beef taco, 1 bean and cheese pupusa, 1 order of sweet plantains and finally, one over easy egg. Just how does this go together? Well, I got the craving for something off beat from a discussion with Type Geek yesterday regarding mofongo. He is hanging out in the rainforests of Puerto Rico and traipsing about being adventure boy (I’m a tad jealous of Puerto Rico, cause I want to have adventures with him…and instead P.R. has him all to themselves) and eating amazing food. We both love plantains and I woke up with an unwavering craving for them this morning. I also wanted something kinda brunchy.
This is how it all came together on the plate:
Beef taco on one side, pupusa beside it, plantains and pigeon beans on the other side of the dish. The over easy egg oozed yolk over the taco and the curtido topped pupusa, while a dab of Salvadoran cream and a sprinkle of sea salted smoked paprika created an amazing flavor for the plantains and beans.
A cup of freshly pressed Galápagos San Cristóbal from my fantastic new Bodum Eco-French Press and the early afternoon has settled into a wonderful thing. I miss my hammock in my old neighborhood, but it wouldn’t satisfy right now on its own. As the days grow shorter, my ability to maintain my status quo ante, is also growing shorter. I want an autumn spent under warm blankets, with hot cups of tea, nuzzled in the arms of someone who is as equally amazed by my person, as I am by theirs. I admit it. I guess the question of whether this is possible is still up in the air. He DID call me from Puerto Rico though. That is a good sign, no? He also just texted me and asked me if I would like to sleep at his place on Tuesday night after I get off work and let me know that he and his best friend might eat at the restaurant on Wednesday night, if possible. Hmm, these all seem to be positive signs.
